Oakdale foothills/mountain loop to Modesto - Oakdale
Kickstands up in Oakdale, the gateway to the Sierra foothills. From town we head east on Highway 108 before cutting north toward the historic gold-rush town of Knights Ferry. This stretch is a perfect warm-up ride with sweeping farmland views before dropping down along the Stanislaus River into one of California’s most scenic and historic little towns. After a quick stop in Knights Ferry, the ride climbs into the foothills toward Groveland, carving through rolling oak hills and winding mountain curves. Our destination is the legendary Iron Door Saloon, one of the oldest continuously operating saloons in California. It’s the perfect place to grab a drink, stretch your legs, and soak in a little Wild West history. From Groveland we point the bikes downhill, cruising back through the foothills toward Smith Station Road. This route cuts through open ranch land and long sweeping curves, eventually connecting to J‑59 (La Grange Road) as we make our way toward the historic gold-rush town of La Grange. Our final stop is the legendary La Grange Saloon, a classic biker and gold-country watering hole that’s been serving travelers for generations. After hanging out at the saloon, we saddle up for the final leg of the ride, cruising west across the valley back to Modesto. Ride highlights • Sierra foothill twisties • Historic Gold Rush towns • Two legendary saloons • Scenic river crossings and ranchland views A perfect day ride: history, scenery, and just enough curves to keep it fun.
