1. Who We Are
Detecht Technologies AB ("Detecht", "we", "us") is a Swedish company registered with company number 559176-8584, with its registered office at Gamla Almedalsvägen 19, 412 63 Gothenburg, Sweden. We provide a motorcycle companion app available on iOS, Android, and the web (collectively the "Services"). For the purpose of the GDPR and equivalent legislation, Detecht is the data controller for personal data processed in connection with the Services.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, the legal bases we rely on, how long we keep it, who we share it with, and what rights you have. It applies to all users worldwide, regardless of where you are located.
By creating an account or using our Services, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. Where we rely on consent for specific processing activities, we will ask for that consent separately and explicitly.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Give Us
When you create an account or interact with the Services, you may provide us with the following information. Your first name is required to create an account. You can sign in using your email address or through a third-party service (Google, Apple, or Facebook). You can optionally add your city or region, a profile photo, username, and details about your motorcycle. If you record rides or share content within the app, you may also contribute routes, ride summaries, hazard reports, comments, and messages to other users.
If you choose to activate the SOS Alarm integration (available in Sweden only), we store the phone number you provide so that an SOS Alarm emergency responder can call you back in the event of an incident. Providing this number is entirely optional.
When you contact us for support or submit feedback, we retain the content of that correspondence.
We do not collect or store your payment card details. All subscription payments and in-app purchases are processed directly by Apple (App Store), Google (Google Play), or our web payment processor, each of which acts as the payment platform and handles billing on its own infrastructure.
2.2 Information Collected Through Your Use of Our Services
When you use the Services, we collect certain information automatically. When you start a ride or navigation session, the app records GPS route, distance, timestamps, and data from your device's motion sensors (including accelerometer and gyroscope readings). This ride data is only collected during an active tracking or navigation session, including while the app is running in the background. It is not recorded passively.
We also collect information about the device you are using, such as the device model, operating system version, app version, and a unique device identifier. We collect information about how you interact with the app, including which features you use, which screens you view, how long your sessions last, and actions you take within the app. Your IP address and network connection type are also captured when you use the Services.
If you have crash detection enabled, the app stores crash log files and event data from potential crash events. We retain these logs to follow up on events and to continue improving the accuracy of the crash detection feature.
2.3 Information From Other Sources
If you sign in using a third-party account such as Google, Apple, or Facebook, we receive basic profile information from that provider (typically a name, email address, and unique identifier), in accordance with that provider's own privacy policy and the permissions you grant.
If you connect third-party devices such as vehicle infotainment systems, smart watches, or other connected hardware, we may receive activity or sensor data from those devices to enhance your experience.
3. How We Use Your Personal Data
We process your personal data only when we have a valid legal basis. The main legal bases we rely on are: performing our contract with you (providing the Services you have signed up for), our legitimate interests (where these are not overridden by your rights), your explicit consent for specific features (such as the SOS Alarm integration and Safety Tracking), and our legal obligations.
Providing and operating the Services
We use your account information, ride data, and device information to create and maintain your account, deliver the core features of the app (ride recording, navigation, crash detection, the community feed), manage your subscription, and provide customer support. This processing is necessary to perform our contract with you.
Keeping you safe
Our crash detection feature uses your device's motion sensors and GPS to detect potential accidents. If an event is detected, the app sends an SMS to the emergency contact you have designated in your profile. The SMS contains your last known GPS position at the time of the detected event. We process this information on the basis of vital interests (the protection of human life) and to fulfil the Services you have signed up for.
If you have enabled the SOS Alarm integration (Sweden only), your stored phone number is used to enable a callback from an SOS Alarm emergency responder. This is processed on the basis of your consent.
Improving our app and website
We analyze how people use our features, where they encounter difficulty, and how the app performs on different devices. To do this we use product analytics tools and, on iOS and our website, session analysis tools that capture anonymized screen activity and interaction patterns. The map view is not visible in session recordings; passwords and similar sensitive fields are always excluded. We do this on the basis of our legitimate interests in developing and improving our products. You can object to this processing by contacting privacy@detecht.se.
Communicating with you
We send transactional messages as part of our contract with you, including account confirmations, subscription receipts, and security alerts. By creating an account and accepting our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use, you agree to receive marketing communications and our newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us directly.
Marketing and attribution
We use analytics and attribution tools to understand which marketing channels bring riders to the app, so we can measure the effectiveness of our campaigns and allocate resources accordingly. On Android, this may involve your device's advertising identifier if you have not opted out at the device level. On iOS, we use privacy-preserving aggregated attribution methods that do not link data to your individual account. We do this on the basis of our legitimate interests in marketing our Services.
Road safety research
We may use aggregated and fully anonymized data derived from ride logs, sensor readings, and hazard reports to contribute to road safety research and to improve our own services. We do this on the basis of our legitimate interests in public safety and service improvement. This processing does not involve personal data. See Section 5.4 for more information.
Legal and regulatory compliance
We retain financial and accounting records as required by Swedish accounting law (Bokföringslagen) and applicable tax regulations. This is a legal obligation.
We do not use your data for automated decision-making that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you.
4. Our Service Providers
We work with third-party companies and service providers to operate and improve the Services. These companies act as processors under GDPR and are permitted to use your data only to perform services on our behalf, under data processing agreements that require them to protect your data in accordance with applicable law.
We group our service providers into the following categories:
Backend infrastructure
Our primary cloud infrastructure runs on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Firebase, which provides data storage, database management, server-side processing, user authentication, push notifications, crash reporting, performance monitoring, remote configuration, and in-app messaging. Google Cloud is based in the United States; EU transfer safeguards are in place as described in Section 6. We also operate certain data processing through a European cloud region.
Analytics and user experience
We use product analytics tools to understand how riders use the app, identify technical issues, and measure feature performance. On iOS and our website, we additionally use session analysis tools that capture anonymized on-screen interactions and navigation patterns to help us improve the experience. The map view is not visible in session recordings, and sensitive fields such as passwords are always excluded. You may object to this processing at any time by contacting privacy@detecht.se.
Mapping and navigation
We use third-party providers for map rendering, route calculation, geocoding, directions, road surface quality data, and weather overlays. These services receive location queries and, in some cases, GPS coordinates as part of delivering navigation and map features.
Social login and authentication
We support sign-in via Google, Apple, and Facebook. When you use one of these options, the provider shares your basic profile details (typically your name, email address, and a unique user identifier) with us, in accordance with that provider's own privacy policy and the permissions you have granted.
Marketing and attribution
We use mobile advertising and attribution services to measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns. We do this on the basis of our legitimate interests in understanding which channels bring riders to the app. On Android, this may involve your device's advertising identifier; you can opt out by resetting or disabling your advertising ID in your device's privacy settings. On iOS, we use aggregated, privacy-preserving attribution methods that do not link data to your individual account. These tools do not enable third parties to target you with ads on other platforms.
Billing and payments
Subscriptions and in-app purchases are processed through the App Store (iOS), Google Play (Android), and Paddle, which acts as our merchant of record for web-based subscriptions. We do not store, receive, or process your payment card details, as these are handled entirely by the relevant payment platform.
Communications
We use email service providers to deliver transactional messages (account confirmations, receipts, password resets) and marketing communications to users. Emergency SMS messages sent as part of the crash detection feature are delivered through Twilio (Twilio Inc.), a third-party SMS provider based in the United States, under a data processing agreement and Standard Contractual Clauses.
Content delivery and hosting
Our website and help center are hosted by third-party web hosting providers. We use a third-party provider for web font delivery and for embedded video content within the app (tutorials and help material).
A full and current list of our service providers is available on request at privacy@detecht.se. We will notify you of any significant changes to our processor relationships.
5. How We Share Your Information
5.1 Crash Detection and Emergency Contacts
When crash detection is triggered, the app sends an SMS to the emergency contact(s) you have added in your profile. The SMS contains your last known GPS position at the time of the detected event. The message content is not stored by us after transmission.
SOS Alarm (Sweden only): if you have activated the SOS Alarm integration, your stored phone number is shared with SOS Alarm solely to enable their emergency responders to call you back. It is not shared with any other party and is used for no other purpose.
5.2 Live Tracking (your choice, your control)
Detecht includes optional live tracking features that let you share your real-time location with people you trust during a ride. This covers both Safety Tracking (sharing your location with chosen contacts for safety purposes) and Ride Sessions (sharing your live position with other riders in a group ride). All live tracking features are entirely opt-in.
To activate Safety Tracking, you must choose to enable it, select which contacts may receive your location, and actively send each contact their unique sharing link. Your live location is not shared with anyone unless you complete all of these steps. The sharing link allows your chosen contacts to see your real-time GPS position for as long as the link is active. You can delete the link at any time, which immediately and permanently stops further access.
The legal basis for all live tracking processing is your explicit consent, exercised through the deliberate steps described above.
5.3 Community and Public Content
Content you choose to make public, such as routes, ride summaries, hazard reports, and comments, may be visible to other Detecht users according to your privacy settings. You control what you share and with whom.
5.4 Aggregated and Anonymized Data
We may share or sell statistical, aggregated data derived from riding behavior, GPS tracks, motion sensor readings, road conditions, and hazard reports with third parties such as research organizations, road safety authorities, government agencies, automotive partners, or other companies.
Before any such sharing, we aggregate and anonymize the data so it cannot reasonably be used to identify you. This data is not personal data within the meaning of applicable privacy law and is therefore not subject to individual privacy rights.
We do this to contribute to road safety research, improve road infrastructure planning, and develop better safety technologies for motorcyclists.
5.5 Business Transfers
If Detecht is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. You will be notified in advance and will have the right to delete your account before any transfer takes effect.
5.6 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your data to law enforcement agencies, regulators, or courts when required by applicable law, or when necessary to protect the vital interests or safety of any person.
5.7 What We Do Not Do
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not share your personal data with advertisers for them to send you ads on other platforms. We do not share text messaging opt-in data or consent information with any third party.
6. International Data Transfers
Some of our service providers are based outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. This means that user data, including account information, ride data, and usage analytics, may be processed in the US or other countries that do not have the same level of data protection as the EEA.
Whenever personal data is transferred outside the EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place. We rely primarily on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, which contractually bind our service providers to protect your data to EEA standards. For US-based providers that participate in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, we also rely on that framework as a supplementary safeguard.
We monitor legal developments around international data transfers and will update our practices if the applicable framework changes. You can request a copy of the relevant safeguards by contacting privacy@detecht.se.
7. Data Retention
We keep your personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by law.
Your account data, including your profile, ride history, and GPS data, is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your associated personal data within 30 days. Crash detection log files and event data are retained for service improvement purposes and are deleted together with your account.
Your SOS Alarm phone number (Sweden only) is retained for as long as you have the SOS Alarm integration active. It is only deleted when you remove the phone number yourself or when you delete your account.
Support communications are retained for as long as needed to resolve your inquiry and to meet our applicable legal obligations.
Financial and billing records are retained for seven years as required by Swedish accounting law (Bokföringslagen) and applicable tax regulations.
Anonymized and aggregated data, which cannot identify you, may be retained indefinitely for research and road safety purposes.
8. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights regarding your personal data. At this time, the primary way to exercise these rights is by deleting your account through the Detecht app (Profile → Settings → Delete account), which removes all personal data associated with your account. You can also contact us directly at privacy@detecht.se for any other requests.
8.1 Rights Under GDPR (EEA, UK, Switzerland)
If you are based in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have the following rights under the GDPR and equivalent legislation. You have the right to access a copy of the personal data we hold about you. You can delete your account directly in the app via Profile, Settings, Delete account, which removes all personal data associated with your account. You have the right to restriction, to ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances. You have the right to data portability, meaning you can receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format. You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests by contacting privacy@detecht.se. Where we rely on consent, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time without affecting any processing that has already taken place.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Our lead supervisory authority is Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY) in Sweden (www.imy.se, imy@imy.se, Box 8114, 104 20 Stockholm). You may also contact the supervisory authority of your country of residence. UK residents may contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at www.ico.org.uk. Swiss residents may contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) at www.edoeb.admin.ch.
We will respond to your request within 30 days. We will not charge a fee for reasonable requests.
8.2 Rights for US Residents (CCPA / CPRA and similar state laws)
If you are a California resident or a resident of another US state with applicable privacy laws (including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, and Oregon), you have additional rights. You may request to know what personal information we collect, use, share, or disclose about you. You may request deletion or correction of your personal information. You have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not use sensitive personal information for purposes beyond providing the Services. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
To exercise your US privacy rights, email privacy@detecht.se with 'US Privacy Request' in the subject line. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
8.3 Rights for Australian Residents
If you are in Australia, you have rights under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). You may access or correct personal information we hold about you, or make a complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au if you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles.
9. Children's Privacy
The Services are not intended for children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you are under 16, please do not use the Services without your parent's or guardian's permission.
If we learn we have inadvertently collected data from a person under 16, we will delete it promptly. If you believe we may have data about a child, please contact privacy@detecht.se.
10. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
Our website (detechtapp.com) uses cookies and similar tracking technologies. Strictly necessary cookies are essential for the site to function, as they enable login sessions and basic security features and cannot be disabled. Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with our website; you can disable these through your browser settings. Functionality cookies remember your preferences and settings; disabling them may affect parts of the website.
Our website displays a cookie consent banner when you first visit, allowing you to accept or decline non-essential cookies before they are activated. You can update your preferences at any time through the cookie settings on our website or through your browser settings.
In the mobile app, the SDKs and tools we use may collect device identifiers and behavioral data as described in Section 4. On iOS, you can manage app tracking permissions via Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. On Android, you can manage advertising ID preferences through your device's privacy settings.
11. Security
We take the security of your personal data seriously and implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect it against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. Our service providers are selected in part on the basis of their security practices and are required to maintain appropriate safeguards under their data processing agreements with us.
No method of data transmission or storage is completely secure. While we work to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you have reason to believe that your account or data has been compromised, please contact us at privacy@detecht.se.
If we become aware of a security incident that is likely to affect your rights and freedoms, we will notify the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours and, where required by law, notify you directly.
12. Additional Information for EEA, UK & Swiss Residents
