Set up crash detection

Crash detection is on whenever you track or navigate a ride. Add an emergency contact, and keep your phone in a pocket or on a handlebar mount.

Crash detection is always on while you track a ride or navigate a route in Detecht. It uses your phone's own sensors, so you need no extra sensors or devices. To be ready:

  1. Add an emergency contact in the app, so someone is alerted if you crash.
  2. Keep your phone in a pocket or on a handlebar mount when you ride.
  3. Track your ride or navigate a route.

Where to keep your phone

Crash detection reads your phone's gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetometer and GPS, so it reacts to how the phone moves. To avoid false alarms, keep the phone:

  • on your body, such as in a pocket, or
  • in a mount on your motorcycle's handlebar.

What happens if you crash

Crash detection looks for a pattern like a motorcycle crash: sharp slowing down and tumbling, then no movement. If you get up and move or ride on, the alarm doesn't go off.

When it detects a crash:

  1. Your phone sounds an alarm and vibrates.
  2. If you're unhurt, you have 60 seconds to cancel the alarm.
  3. If you don't cancel it, Detecht sends an alert for help.

Outside Sweden, the alert goes to the emergency contacts you added in the app. They get a text message with the time and place of the crash, so they can get help. You can add one emergency contact for free, and more with Premium.

In Sweden, Premium riders can connect crash detection to the emergency service SOS Alarm: see Connect crash detection to SOS Alarm.
